AI Christmas
December usually isn't when you expect a flurry of new features to be introduced to products. However, OpenAI and Google have kept us on our toes with a slew of announcements. The past two weeks have arguably been the most significant in the AI space in quite some time. Let's delve into some of the highlights.
ChatGPT Has Projects
ChatGPT now allows you to organize your chats into seperate projects. I know this might not seem like a big thing but I think just being able to add a consistent set of files and custom instructions to one area of focus is just going to be a nice quality of life update for the app. It was one of my favorite things about Claude. Because once you set it up it was so simple to just bounce around to different areas. I am very excited to start setting this up for my different areas of focus.
ChatGPT Gains Visual Capabilities
Advanced Voice Mode now enables you to integrate multiple streams into the chat seamlessly. You can share your screen or camera directly with ChatGPT, creating an experience that feels almost magical, as demonstrated in the video above. I personally used it to troubleshoot some appliance issues at home, and I can see its potential for a wide range of applications.
Sora Launches
The first update not integrated into the main ChatGPT experience is now accessible at Sora.com. This platform allows you to create videos from simple text prompts. Although announced some time ago, this feature is now available exclusively to users on a paid plan. There are certain limitations: ChatGPT Plus subscribers can generate up to 50 videos per month, each around 5 seconds long.
When it comes to generating videos, crafting high-quality prompts is crucial for achieving desirable results. Some of my attempts were less than satisfactory, and I hesitated to share them. However, I recently created a video that turned out exceptionally well, featuring a cat in a diner enjoying a slice of pumpkin pie.
More To Come
This week has been full of announcements, and more are anticipated in the coming days. There's a lot of speculation about what OpenAI might reveal by the week's end. We'll return to cover the week's conclusion as well. Thank you for reading, everyone!
