Gemini Extensions: Streamlining Your Workflow with Google Calendar, Tasks, and Keep

I was eagerly awaiting an update to Google's Gemini AI assistant that would allow integration with Google Calendar, Tasks, and Keep.

The Gemini Extensions feature enables users to integrate and utilize these other Google services. While I personally don't use Google Tasks or Keep, the prospect of this new Gemini functionality was exciting.

Gemini is the third AI assistant I use, after ChatGPT and Claude, but I was still looking forward to trying out the calendar, task, and note-taking integrations. Ultimately, I was granted access to the updated Gemini with the new Extensions feature.

I've been searching for a tool to enhance my organization and streamline information capture. As someone who takes copious notes and jots down countless ideas, I'm eager for a more intuitive method of recording notes and tasks. Additionally, the ability to query my calendar would be immensely beneficial.

Gemini did a good job of picking up what I wanted to do without always have to use the @GoogleKeep command to keep calling the extra functionality in Gemini. I also found that it worked pretty well on the Android app as a way to capture a quick note.

The most frustrating aspect was using Google Tasks. There are limiting functionalities baked into the core product that prevent it from being something I can use extensively. However, there are some intriguing product crossovers with Google Calendar and Google Chat, which could be interesting if you're deeply embedded in the Google ecosystem.

I hope that Google continues to work on this integration because it feels like it is a good start but there needs to be more work done to it. The most accurate way of using it is making sure you @ whatever app that you want to invoke and it does try to think about what app you might want via natural language without any calls for an app. But, it did miss it on a few occasions and things ended in Google Keep that should of been tasks for example.
